C-Murder’s sentence was upheld today in a Louisiana appeals court.

Louisiana rapper C-Murder’s sentence was upheld today in a Louisiana appeals court.

The rapper, whose real name is Corey Miller, is the brother of Percy Miller, No Limit Forever founder Master P.

The three judge panel from the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals denied Miller’s defense that he didnt get a fair trial in the shooting of a teenager in 2002.

Seven years later, the jury convicted Miller of second degree murder in 2009 for killing the 16 year old boy in a nightclub.

Miller claims the judge who carried out the trial allowed jurors to hear prejudicial and unsubstantiated testimony, and that witnesses were threatened.

In addition to the aforementioned claims, Miller says the prosecution intentionally eliminated black people from the jury. All claims were denied.

Arsenal offer club legend Henry two-month loan deal

Arsenal have finally offered Thierry Henry a contract to return to the club on a two-month loan.

Arsene Wenger had been mulling over whether to take back the club’s all-time leading goalscorer to boost his side’s chances of finishing in the top four.

With Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh heading to the Africa Cup of Nations next month, the Arsenal manager has concluded that top scorer Robin van Persie needs help to lighten his scoring burden.

Wenger decided to make the offer after the 34-year-old returned from holiday in Mexico this week. Henry has a $4.5million (£2.9m) deal with New York Red Bulls but has been training with Arsenal in the MLS off-season and does not have to return to America until March.

He could feature in seven Premier League games if he accepts the offer — as well as FA Cup ties and the first leg of Arsenal’s Champions League last-16 clash against AC Milan. But it is the Premier League where Wenger’s side need most help, with key games against Manchester United and Tottenham coming up.

Henry has impressed with his sharpness, attitude and effect on the Arsenal squad. He has become increasingly in favour of a return to the club and was moved to tears when a statue of him was unveiled at the Emirates this month.

The former Arsenal captain scored a record 226 goals and won two league titles at the club between 1999 and 2007.

His return would excite fans smarting from the summer departures of Cesc Fabregas, Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri.

He will be welcome in the dressing too, with Alex Song and Per Mertesacker among those singing the former Barcelona man’s praises.

‘He is a great opportunity for us,’ said Mertesacker after Tuesday’s
frustrating 1-1 draw against Wolves.

‘But I’m not the manager. I am happy training with him. He is playing well. Training against him is a great experience. He shows his class. He has the same attitude he showed in a lot of Arsenal games.’

Mertesacker has also been in touch with fellow German Lukas Podolski, urging him to join the club in January.

Sportsmail revealed Wenger’s interest in the striker this month, and Mertesacker said: ‘Of course I’ve been on the phone to him. He is a powerful, great player, especially for the national team.

'He has scored a lot of goals, is a good striker with a very good finish. His left foot is unbelievable and I am a fan of him.'

Lagos Toll Fee Is Powered By Greed And Corruption!

… In Case Anyone Has Forgotten, This Is The History Of The Eti-Osa LG Toll Project

THE FACTS

1. The Lekki-Epe express road was initially constructed by the Jakande administration and completed by the Mudashiru and Mike Akhigbe military administrations in 1987. The entire Lekki axis was then opened up for rapid development. Between 1985 and now, the corridor has been experiencing rapid and unprecedented urban growth as hundreds of new communities, developments and estates have developed which drew large population of low and middle income Lagosians.
2. The last administration realizing the urgent need to address the fast growing problem of road congestion conceived the idea of the expansion of the existing express road into a six-lane roadway, the construction of an alternate coastal road that will run from Ahmadu Bello way in Bar Beach, along the shores of the Atlantic ocean towards Ibeju-Lekki Local Government area. The third leg was the construction of a fourth mainland bridge, from Langbasa area near Ajah across the Lagos Lagoon to Ikorodu town and detouring somewhere to join the existing third mainland bridge thereby forming a circular road around Lagos.

3. A committee was initially set up which recommended the adoption of the PPP concept to handle the project since it was thought then that because of the magnitude of the project, the state government might have to collaborate with the private sector under a Private-Public-Participation (PPP) model to handle the project.

4. Thereafter, Tinubu’s greed took control. He floated a company-Lekki Concession Company (LCC) to handle the project as a consortium and appointed a financial advisory company ARM as the financial adviser.

5. LCC immediately asked for 1,000 hectares of prime land as the contribution of the state government to the project. This was immediately granted by Tinubu and he released the c of o within weeks for 1,000 hectares of prime at Awoyaya, Abijo, Eputu and Sapati all in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area. Part of the land is now being developed as ADIVA housing and golf course project by ARM

6. The project was later jettisoned after obtaining the hectares of land and other payments from the state government and in its place; the rehabilitation of the existing Lekki expressway was adopted by the consortium. There is no basis for a toll road and 30 year concession arrangement for a mere rehabilitation and expansion of an existing road which the government could afford on its own.

7. Indeed, the Federal Government under President Olusegun Obasanjo wrote to Governor Tinubu in 2006, offering to construct the coastal road free of charge to Lagos and its people from the Lekki Free Trade Zone to Ahmadu Bello Way in VI. He also sent a letter of commitment written by a Chinese construction firm to that effect. Governor Tinubu firmly rejected this offer and instead opted to abandon the coastal road project which the concession was initially meant for and instead signed a 30 year concession for a toll road to his company.

8. The rehabilitation work commenced in late 2006 with the expansion and rehabilitation of the Ozumba Mbadiwe end to Mobil building and the 49.4km main Lekki road rehabilitation started in 2007 shortly after Fashola became Governor

9. By this time, Fashola’s crony-Dr Tunji Olowolafe was made chairman of LCC and the entire contract was awarded to HITECH. HITECH is owned by both the Chagouris and former Gov Bola Tinubu who is the Chairman

10. LCC was given a 30 year concession (note that all their concessions are usually 30 years) with no competitive bid, no competing quote and no professional evaluation. The whole thing was packaged by Tinubu and executed by Fashola for their own selfish interest.

11. To further confirm this, Tinubu has built a multi-billion naira state of the art hotel-the Oriental Hotel along the express road. Conveniently, the toll gate is located a few meters before the hotel coming from VI so that the hotel clients wouldn’t have to pay toll. Even, special entry and exit points (including a roundabout) have been constructed for the hotel and the multi-level car park beside it (also owned by Tinubu) by the construction company using tax/toll payers’ money. Talk about creating a personal empire. One man owning an express road and a multi-billion naira hotel.

12. The 49.4km two-phased project is to cost an outrageous N50 billion which the innocent citizens and particularly the residents and indigenous communities of Lekki, Ajah, Epe and Ibeju areas will cough out over the next 30 years while Tinubu, Fashola, Olowolafe, the Chagouris and their other collaborators and their unborn generations will be smiling to the banks. A simple arithmetic shows that cost of construction averages N1billion per 1km. This did not include the 1,000 hectares of land and other costs already incurred by the Lagos state government. This must be the most expensive road anywhere in the world! Meanwhile, there will be 3 toll plazas in a 50km stretch!

13. Already, the rehabilitation work which started in 2006 has only achieved less than 2km in over 3 years; meanwhile, the consortium has only concentrated on building the toll plazas rather than first completing the two phases for the convenience of residents. Residents in these areas spend more than 6 hours daily on the road while the situation will get worse during the coming rains. This has disrupted the lives of the citizens and no proper alternate road was constructed by the consortium.

14. The entire Lekki axis hosts millions of indigenous people who are fishermen and farmers and have occupied their lands for centuries. They are largely poor and agrarian from villages like Ajah, Badore, Elegushi, Ajiran, Sangotedo, Abijo, Ibeju, and all communities in Eti-osa, Epe and Ibeju-Lekki Local Government areas. These indigenous people along with others living in the area are now being forced to pay toll to enter and exit their fatherland.

15. These people who have been subjected to economic misfortune occasioned by seizure of their lands by this government are now been economically drained by the imposition of toll gates within their communities. There has never been any consultations with the people neither was there any environmental impact assessment before the commencement of the project.

THE BIG FRAUD

This is the biggest fraud ever conceived!

(a) A road that was initially constructed by two previous administration and that belong to the Lagos State Government is now being jointly owned by Tinubu-the former governor and Fashola-the present governor through his crony-Dr Tunji Olowolafe under the consortium LCC

(b) LCC was appointed without conforming to the Public Procurement Act of 2007. There was no public bidding process, no competing bids from other consortium and the fact that the former Governor and the present Governor have personal interest is criminal in nature.

(c) LCC will collect toll from the taxpayers of Lagos over the next 30years. The amount to be collected was not subject to any negotiation or law by any regulatory agency. Which means it is arbitrary and could be changed without notice anytime through the duration of the 30 year lease.

(d) In addition, landowners and prospective builders of homes are being charged heavily as infrastructural charge, land use charge and personal income tax and are now required to pay road tax or toll. This is multiple taxation in its worst form.

(e) The people’s livelihoods have been disrupted for the past 3 years without compensation and there is no alternate road anywhere as it is in practice in other parts of the world where there are toll roads.

(f) A concession that was granted for the building of a coastal road, 4th mainland bridge and expansion of Lekki road has now been turned into mere rehabilitation of an existing road for the same 30-year concession. This is fraud.

(g) Fences are being built around the toll areas to box residents within the area. This has security and safety implications. If there is a major emergency like major armed robbery operations, civil crisis, major floods, fire incidents etc and residents need to be evacuated in a hurry; there will be major massive bottleneck at the toll plaza as there is no other escape route except through the lagoon or Atlantic Ocean. Remember the Oke-Afa mass drowning incident of 2002. God forbid!

(h) The owners of LCC have also received cash payments and land grants from Lagos state government in addition to the 30 year toll. These payments and land grants were initially made under the agreement that the 4th mainland bridge-Lekki road-coastal road would be built. It is therefore criminal to obtain compensation for a project only to turn around and reduce the scope.

(i) Several prominent Baales, residents and associations have voiced their objections over the years but were arrogantly ignored by government and LCC. The Eti-Osa Heritage Group, Concerned Residents of Lekki-Ajah (COROLA) and other Indigenous groups have expressed reservations and berated LCC for what they considered inequitable for the residents.

(j) We indeed wonder what the Lagos State House of Assembly is there for if it cannot raise its voice to protect its citizens. The House is indeed culpable as it remains ineffective when this entire charade is going on under its watch or is the House of Assembly another conquered territory of both Tinubu and Fashola?

This insight into the Lekki-Epe road was contributed by Abdulrazaq O Hamzat.

Amanda Knox hires Tony Blair's lawyer to help secure book deal

Amanda Knox has hired the lawyer who handled Tony Blair's memoirs to help her land a lucrative book deal.

Meredith Kercher's father hopes Amanda Knox maintains 'low profile'
Miss Knox looks certain to earn upwards of £1 million by selling her story, with television companies vying to secure the first interview with her and publishers keen to secure the rights to her story Photo: AP

The 24-year-old, who in October was cleared of murdering her British roommate Meredith Kercher after a four year legal battle, is expected to be paid well over a million dollars for her story.

A spokesman said she had hired Washington lawyer Robert Barnett to represent her in negotiations with publishers and secure the best deal.

Mr Barnett handled the publishing of former prime minister's memoirs and has represented the literary interests of Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, George W Bush and Sarah Palin among others.

He is a major power broker in Democratic politics and is often brought in to coach Democrat presidential candidates ahead of debates with Republican opponents.

Knox returned to her hometown of Seattle in October following a dramatic courtroom scene that was covered by media around the world.

Although she has been photographed often she has yet to give any interviews, helping to preserve the value of an eventual book deal.

Earlier this year a film was made about the murder case, with actress Hayden Panettiere playing Knox.

Teenager 'dies jumping into piranha-infested river'

A teenage boy was eaten alive by piranhas after leaping into a river infested with the flesh-eating fish in northeastern Bolivia, authorities have said.

Teenager 'kills himself by jumping into piranha-infested river'

The 18-year-old man was drunk when he jumped out of a canoe in the Bolivian town of Rosario del Yata, 400 miles (640 kilometres) north of the capital of La Paz, police official Daniel Cayaya said.

The man bled to death after the attack, which occurred last Thursday, Mr Cayaya said. First word of the incident emerged on Tuesday, when it was reported by the local Erbol radio station.

Police suspect that the man had committed suicide because he was a fisherman in the region who knew the Yata river well.

Despite their fearsome reputation, fatal attacks by piranhas on humans are rare

Sony changes advert after complaints from Nigerian government

The Nigerian federal government has criticised Sony for a PlayStation 3 advert in which it implied that Nigerians are fraudsters.

The advert, for Sony's new "slim" PlayStation 3, shows a salesman being asked about the price of the console. "You can't believe everything you read on the internet," he tells the prospective customer. "Otherwise I'd be a Nigerian millionaire by now."

The Nigerian federal government reacted angrily to the ad campaign, which pokes fun at Nigeria's reputation as the epicentre of so-called "419 fraud", in which web users receive an unsolicited email from someone purporting to be a Nigerian prince, businessman or senior politician, who will pay the web user hundreds of thousands of dollars in exchange for an upfront fee and their bank details.

"Nigeria demands an unconditional apology from Sony Corporation for this deliberate negative campaign against the country’s image and reputation," said the Nigerian government in a statement. "The government sees this as an attempt by Sony Corporation to undermine Nigeria's business interest around the world. This insinuation is in bad faith and unacceptable. The government and the good people of Nigeria reject this unwarranted attack on the reputation and image of the country.

"The apology must be given the same measure of publicity by Sony Corporation in all channels where the unfortunate adverts were aired."

Sony has apologised for any offence caused by the advert, which it said was not intended for broadcast outside the United States.

Original Dogg Pound members Daz and Kurupt are back in the studio working on a new album that will be executive produced by both Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg.

The pair are on the road with Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa, who are touring in support of their upcoming movie “Mac and Devin Go To High School.”

In an exclusive interview, Daz and Kurupt revealed that they are working on a new album titled Alumni, which will be overseen by both Dre and Snoop.

“It’s Daz and Kurupt getting that DPGC together. Big Snoop is overseeing it, Dre’s overseeing,” Kurupt said at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia. “We just got off a road trip for beats with Dr. Dre, who is still working on Detox.”

While most of Tha Dogg Pound’s albums were independently released, Daz said Alumni will be a major release backed by both Dr. Dre and Snoop’s respective machines.

According to Daz, Alumni will feature a combination of production between himself and Dr. Dre.

“We put the beats together, submit it to him [Dr. Dre] to let him know what we are working with and he comes and adds his flavor to it. It’s natural.”

As of press time, a release date for Tha Dogg Pound’s upcoming album Alumni was not available.

Ja Rule Letter 2# From Prison: I got into it wit these stupid niggas trying to assassinate my character!!

After his first entry a few weeks back, Ja Rule checked in with his latest kite. Up north, Ja discussed the first night behind bars, reflected on his deceased father and how responding to fan mail uplifts his spirits.

My first night here was crazy inmates screaming, banging, and kicking the doors calling the male CO’s bitch ass niggas & faggots telling the female CO’s how they gonna fuck em, throwing plates of food out their cells onto the floor LOL. WELCOME TO THE GREEN MONSTER!

This type of shit would never happen upstate at best you’d be in the box for a month at worst the infirmary. I even got into it wit these stupid niggas trying to assassinate my character talkin about I’m snitching to the guards and that I’m getting special treatment. I barked on these niggas and set em straight cause as a man there’s only so much you can take before you snap.

At first I tried to ignore there lil comments until they started talkin shit like they gonna kick my door and all this clown shit. But the funny thing is when I started screaming on them lettin them know they got the wrong nigga they got excited it was like that’s what they wanted to bring the hood out of me. That’s when I realized that I’m dealing wit kids they can’t be niggas my age cause that would’ve lead to instant confrontation not instant admiration.

After I set em straight they wanted to talk & ask me about the industry I could tell they wanted to be my friend but just didn’t know how to go about it. So I chatted wit them for a lil bit before letting them know I was tried and ready to lay down. But as I layed I listened to them talk telling there life stories of how one was born in a crack house and grew up selling crack to his mother and how another watched his father get murdered rite in front of him by some dudes he owed money as they robbed his house and how they were now in jail for crimes of their own one for beating his girl friend the other for a murder. One of them them is 19 the other just turned 23 yesterday. Both with kids of their own. When will we break the cycle? WILLIE LYNCH LIVES ON… DAMN!

When I got here I was happy to see some officers of the same skin color not that I’m racist or anything but in this type of situation and where I just came from you’d be happy to see some of your own too. Prejudice does still exist trust me I’ve been treated and seen it people treated like niggers more in 1 month that I have my whole life I feel like a slave and even tho I haven’t heard anyone say it actions speak louder than words.

As I walk through the door everyone staring like they can’t believe I just walked in cuffed from head to toe. Even tho I don’t feel like much of a star that’s all they see the star that has fallen. But as I look in their eyes I still see the love they still wanna meet me and greet me as if I’m on their own personal stage except there’s no screaming fans, fancy clothes & bright lights. Only screaming inmates me in my orange jumpsuit and little flash lights they shine in my cell at night. It’s hard to feel good signing autographs and taking pictures in this predicament but I did it with a smile cause I love my fans and never say no, no matter what mood I’m in after the meet & greet they took me to my cell where I’ll be housed till my court date it’s not the best but it’s not the worst either they gave me some pillows and an extra mattress so I’ll live. This is my 3rd here and IA already came and got me to investigate my lil meet & greet. I basically told them to fuck off and that those are good cops cause they really were nice to me last thing I wanna see is good people get in trouble cause they got an autograph or a pic from me. You wanna investigate something investigate the crooked Hip Hop Task Force that got me into this shit in the first place.

As I sit in my cell listening to their stories I think about me and my Dad and how I hated to love him for so many years and how I vowed to be nothing like him only to have my mother say “your just like your father” LOL. Which made me curious to know him and of course just as we start to get closer to one another he dies. But I have my closure I learned alot about him and him about me in the short time we spent together. Which makes me think about my kids and how I’m raising them I am a great father and I have broken the cycle even though I’m in prison the foundation has already been layed.

I hate being away from them for 20 months but shit could just as easily been on tour for that long. I feel compelled I wanna help other kids break the cycle. I’ve been to 5 different prisons and all I see is niggas and I ain’t talking about black people I’m talking about ignorance. See the problem wit most people is they don’t smell shit until they step in it and by that time it’s all over your shoe and everybody is tryin to get away from you. Now you have 2 choices you can either wash that shoe or throw it away. A lot of people choose to throw it away meaning they didn’t learn shit but those that choose to wash that shoe tend to watch their step knowing how hard it was to get em clean. I think I’ll wash my shoes this time cause this shit ain’t me.

Chelsea moved above Newcastle in the Barclays Premier League after winning a sensational match at the Sports Direct Arena.

Chelsea missed a gilt-edged chance to take the lead Frank Lampard saw his first-half penalty expertly saved by Tim Krul, but they did not have to wait too long before Juan Mata crossed for Didier Drogba to power a header past Krul.

Newcastle hit the woodwork three times before Salomon Kalou slotted home and Daniel Sturridge fired in late on to wrap up the points.

True Blood: Billy Garland, Tupac’s Father, Speaks

Bill Garland reconnected with his son less than two years before bullets in Las Vegas separated them forever. Tupac’s father remembers

I thought my father was dead all my life. After I got shot, I looked up, there was this nigga that looked just like me. And he was my father; that’s when I found out. We still didn’t take no blood test, but the nigga looked just like me and the other nigga’s dead. So now I feel that I’m past the father stage. I do want to know him, and I do know him. We did talk and he did visit and help me when I was locked down, but I’m past that.

—Tupac, to Vibe magazine’s Kevin Powell, June 1996

There were several important male figures in Tupac Shakur’s life. But it wasn’t until he was 23 that he met his biological father. A member of the Jersey City branch of the Black Panther Party in the 1960s, Bill Garland met Afeni Shakur at a strategy officer’s meeting in New York City in 1969. The two had a short affair in 1970, which led to the birth of Tupac, on June 16, 1971—while Afeni was in jail for conspiracies to blow up New York department stores and subway police stations.

Living separately, but around the family for his son’s early childhood, Garland fell out of touch in the mid-’70s and stayed that way until ’Pac was recovering from being shot at New York’s Quad Studios in 1994. After ’Pac’s murder, two years later, Garland sued Afeni for half of the estate, citing, in the lawsuit, her false claim on the death certificate that her only son’s father was deceased. Garland lost the case, but a DNA test he took for the hearing confirmed his paternity.

Recently, approaching the 15th anniversary of his son’s death, Bill Garland, now 61, an employee of the Jersey City Incinerator Authority and a father of six, visited the XXL offices to talk about Tupac.

It’s been 15 years since your son Tupac’s death. How do you feel when you look back?

Billy Garland: It still hurts. We’re talking about someone that is a part of you. Someone that you wish you had spent more time with as a father. Someone that you loved and… Fifteen years, it still feels like yesterday. To anybody out there, the last thing you ever, ever wanna do is lose your child. It’s the most painful thing in the world. Fortunately—I don’t know, fortunately or unfortunately—it’s a child that you see regularly. I walk down the street and see his picture on people’s T-shirts. I see magazines.

You hear him…

Every day on the radio. You know, I’m not the only parent who lost a celebrity son or daughter. But I’ve gotta be one of the few parents that have to see that and be reminded of that daily.

Does it amaze you? There are not too many celebrities who are that big, let alone rappers.

Yes, to a certain extent, because it was always my son. He was never “2Pac, the superstar.” You know, we played Monopoly together. And he tried to cheat. [Laughs] Yeah, in prison. Little, stupid stuff. You know, we ate sunflower seeds together. He had that ability to be down home, just as real as anyone else. He cared for people. That was his main thing. He really cared for people. I think that’s why he would get so upset when people tried to question his commitment, his love for Black women or Black men. The East Coast/West Coast, you know, that’s a fabrication. I don’t have to begin to tell you that. So when that was questioned, it bothered him. Because he would give his heart or soul. He was a giving person. He would give anything to people. He would go in a store. [If there was a] Black man who couldn’t afford a $1,500 pair of boots, he would buy ’em for him. Think that Black man would ever forget Tupac? That’s just the way he is. But I don’t think that he did it for that. He did it because he had it, and he didn’t. That’s the way he is.

Tupac passed at 25. A lot of people aren’t really developed into being a full adult at 25. Do you think that was the case with him?

He still had a lot of childish ways. When I’d visit him [at Clinton Correctional Facility] in Dannemora, I’d ask him about some of the instances—the immature things, the spitting at reporters. He’d say, “Pops, I know I was wrong.” He would say that. He wanted to calm down. He wanted to go watch movies, to stay at home more. He wanted to cool out more. You know, but you get caught up in it. You get caught up in being that which they think you should be. And then you start acting that way, unfortunately. But one on one, any given moment, he’s just a down-to-earth type of person to know.

What was your relationship like? I don’t think most people are familiar with the relationship you guys had. People are confused by it.

I know, I know. It used to bother me, but it doesn’t. ’Cause there’s one thing that he told me, and that’s that he loved me. I knew him up ’til he was five. I got married to another woman. This is when we got out the Panther Party—me and Afeni, that’s where we met. So we lost contact with one another. There’s no doubt in my mind that I could’ve been a better father. There’s no doubt. I have to bear the burden of that, because maybe there was something I could’ve said or have done, maybe, that might not have led to the path that his life has led to. So I have to bear the burden of that. The first time we came back together was the first time he got shot, in New York. It was out of a scene out of The Godfather. Go up to the room, and he sees me, and we talk, and I told him I was with him now, and he realized I was his father.

You hadn’t seen him since he was five years old?

No. Not seen or talked to, unfortunately. I’d seen him in Juice, which was the first time. That was in ’91. And, ironically, there was a woman who was his publicist—her name was Karen—I knew her from Jersey City. The idea was that I would communicate with her. But I later found out that there were some other interests that maybe didn’t want me to communicate with him. I’m not gonna mention any names. [Gestures to a picture of Afeni on the wall] So be that as it may, I’m sending out feelers, ’cause the last thing I want for him to think is that I want something. I might be the only one who’s never taken a dime from my son, if you understand what I’m saying. And I’m talking about people, family, friends who have looked at him as a commodity—I don’t wanna be derogatory—but who have used him. He’d be buying people cars, and they’d say, “Oh, it’s not a good enough car.” He would buy people houses and—he would tell me this; I wouldn’t lie on a dead man—they would say, “It’s not a big enough house.” And I was surprised to hear that.

So you weren’t in touch with him from when he was five until he was 21?

’Til Juice. I’m sitting here watching Juice, and I am crying. I saw the advertisement. I didn’t know which kid was mine until I saw him. And I know somebody in that movie theater had to look at me and say, “Why is that goddamn man crying in the fuckin’ front row of the theater?”

But it just shows up on the screen, and you see your son?

Have you seen Juice? Does he look like me?

Yeah. Exactly like you. And you hadn’t shared a word with him over the years?

Nothing.

That’s pretty crazy. You’re sitting in a movie theater, and all of a sudden, he’s up on a screen?

Yeah. So what do you do? Do you show up at his shoot? That’s what the lawyer was asking me in the trial. “Well, you know, he was in New York at a concert. Why don’t you just go?” I’m supposed to go to the back fuckin’ door, like some groupie, and say, “Hey, ’Pac, I’m your father”?

When you did go to see him, at the hospital, what did he say when he saw you for the first time? And saw how much you looked alike?

He knew. He was shocked. When he came down in the chair, when he was leaving the hospital—which he shouldn't have, because he still had an infection—he looked at me and smiled and said, “Look at this, just like that.” I was the happiest man in the world when I went back to Jersey City. Oh, my fuckin’ heart was swollen. I made contact with my son, and he liked me. He smiled at me. Shit, that got me. I was like, “Yeah, fuck ’em.” So that was that. Shit happens, you know.

But then you find out that stuff was happening that, if I had had a little help… I was like… After the movie [I talked to Karen and asked], “When can I talk to him?” She said, “Well, maybe you should give him a little time.” This was what Afeni was telling Karen. And I didn’t know this. So now I have to get the stories from Karen. I have to go see her when she comes back to Jersey City and listen to her tell me about my son. And I wasn’t pissed at the time, because I was just happy to hear stuff. Like, he’s carrying around $3,000. What’s he need $3,000 for? I would be laughing. But why should I have to go through you to see my son? First time I saw him after the hospital, she came and got me. I had to go to her hotel room for her to take me to the cab. That’s the way Afeni wanted it. So obviously somebody was running block, and I didn’t know why. A lot of shit you just don’t know. You just don’t know. It hurts… From ’91, I gotta wait ’til [’94]? Whatever I was doing, I just kept on doing it. I’m like, “Fuck it, then.” He don’t wanna see me, I’m thinking. But now I find out that he didn’t know about me. So that’s what pissed me off. ’Cause [if it’s] “I don’t wanna see you,” well, I do want to see you. But I can understand. Even though I’ll be hurt, I’ll understand. I fucked up. I’ll pay that. But to find out he’s asking and you’re lying and not telling him, that fuckin’ hurts.

Did you feel like he understood you with all that, in the end?

I don’t know. I wish we would’ve had one of them…maybe got drunk together and just let it all hang out. It was always people freakin’ around. The first time we meet, there’s six people in the room. What can I ask him? And I felt so bad. And now I wanna be a part of him and his crew. I start my grown ass smoking the chronic. Never had chronic in my life. Chronic will fuck you up. I got fucked up. Now I’m stoned stupid, don’t know what to say. But I’m tryin’ to, you know—like the Indians. When you go with the Indians, everyone smoking the pipe and shit. “I’ll smoke. Give me that.” And there’s a fuckin’ kid over there with a fuckin’ big-ass bowl of fuckin’ pot. And they got this box of cigars, and they’re rolling blunts all fuckin’ night. And I’m bluntin’. “Yeah, I can hang. I’m a tough muthafucka.” But I was fucked up. Jasmine Guy’s apartment—that’s whose apartment it was. I almost passed out. I wake up. Jasmine and him on the couch. I’m the last fuckin’ one. I felt like an idiot. First time I see you, I’m in the fuckin’ place passed out! You know? I felt so stupid. I said, “Damn.”

What was that first sit-down like, when you went to visit him in jail? That was when you got to talk to him more, with fewer people around.

Oh, I was so excited. [Laughs] I got a speeding ticket driving from New Jersey to Dannemora prison, wanting to see him so much. And when I left that visit, I turned to him as I’m walking out the door, when they said visiting hours are over, and I said, “I love you.” He said, “I love you, too, Pops.” So that’s all I needed.

Were you ever concerned that, because so much time had gone by and you guys were reconnecting, he would think, Hey, I’m a celebrity. Now here my father is. He wants something from me.

No, I never thought that.

You weren't worried that he might?

I didn’t think that ’til later. But I never thought about it then. I just wish I’d have wrote and communicated more with him. ’Cause I was doing some things then. Wasn’t in the greatest interest of being a father. You know, it was the ’80s and ’90s, and I did some things. The social drugs that were out there, I did some of those. They seemed to soothe the emotions over, if you know what I’m saying. You tend not to think so much about…

And then, by the time you get yourself together, he’s a man.

Exactly. Well, the only bad thing I feel? A month before he died, he called me. And for some reason, he woke me up. And I felt bad we didn’t talk more. So he did reach out. ’Cause I had been calling Death Row and found out they weren’t giving him the messages. So maybe he’s thinking, Well, my dad doesn’t care for me. So we had that disconnect. But then Afeni said to me, the night that he died—and I tend to wanna believe her—it was in September, and she said that that November he was planning on sending for all the siblings, and we were gonna have Thanksgiving together. And that just swelled my heart. ’Cause I don’t think she would’ve said that if it wasn’t true. So that made me feel good. You gotta remember, we had a kid who had nothing, who got a little. But not really a lot before he went to jail. Not really superstar status. Didn’t really see his money develop. Not to go to the bank and take out $50,000. Sent to a prison for something we know he had nothing to do with.

Were you a fan of the music?

Yes, I loved it. And that’s what’s so funny. This is a kid who writes about things that I love. Political things. You got other rappers—what do they write about? I call it “gas, cash and ass.” A new car, flashing money and pretty girls in the videos. That’s all it is. The lyrics, the beats are wack. But they make gazillions of dollars rapping about that. He tells a story. A profound one.

And he came from an authentic background. That was such a huge factor for his fans.

Yes, he did. Very political. They always say he came from a Panther. No, he came from two Black Panthers. You have to understand that. And that contributes a lot to that. So I didn’t mind it. I knew he was living his life. He wasn’t even out a year. Got out in [October], got killed in September. He was living his life, feeling good about himself, feeling like a star.

How angry do you think he was when he got out of jail?

He never showed it.

’Cause the public perception was that he was angry at Biggie and Bad Boy and the East Coast…

Hell, no.

He’s raging, and in comes Suge to put the battery in his back, you know?

But you know what? It’s a funny thing. First time I saw him after 15 years, I went to the hospital, Biggie came and walked up to me and said, “Mr. Garland, I’m sorry for your inconvenience. If there’s anything I can do for you, feel free to call.”

That was after the first shooting?

The first shooting, the one that everybody thinks Biggie had something to do with. There’s no way in hell that a man who was involved in a shooting would do that. Not the way he did it. There was no fear; there was no hesitation. You could see he was just as concerned about ’Pac as anybody.

How did you find out he was shot the second time?

I think somebody called. I can’t remember. I jumped on the next plane out there. And I went in the room, and he was comatose—induced coma. Staples here, little swollen here. And they said that, if you talk to him, he might be able to hear. So I would just stay in the room for hours and just kinda talk. But, uh, it was never no response. He never responded. And that lasted for six days. And the one time I leave the room, I go back to the hotel, get in the car to go to the hotel, and I gotta hear it on the news: Tupac Shakur died. I made a U-turn. I think I hooked up with Afeni down at the Golden Nugget [Hotel and Casino], and we talked a little bit. And then I left town that night. I didn’t even wanna stay in Vegas. I haven’t been back since. Fifteen years.

At first, did you think he’d survive?

Yes. I knew he was strong. I just thought he would. He’d been through a lot of shit. I knew he would. I was shocked.

When was the last time you spoke?

The time he called me on the phone. After I tried to reach him.

And you had the quick conversation?

Yes. And it haunts me to this day. It really does. I had so much to say. You know, don’t you wish you could take that back? If you thought you’re not gonna see somebody or talk to them again, for the rest of your life? To know that you didn’t basically offer anything of substance, just, “What’s up? How you doin’?” You know, “Yeah, Pops, yeah. I’m busy doing this, doing that.” You know, “Okay.” I had been up all night, I ain’t gonna lie, doing shit. I was still out of it. I gotta live with that. Certain shit you gotta live with. It hurts, but you gotta just live with it.

After he passed, there was a lot of talk that he was still alive.

Nah. Ridiculous. Ridiculous. I saw the wounds.

Did that hurt?

Nah. People kinda… I like people, but they’re kinda…silly, I guess. Lack of a better word.

Nutty, silly…

Yeah, okay. I didn’t really wanna say that, you know? I don’t wanna call people who like Tupac nutty.

But it’s interesting how Tupac fans are die-hard. They can be a little crazy.

Today. People stop me and ask me for an autograph. I feel stupid. But I feel honored. ’Cause I know they don’t want me; they want him. And they want something related to him. So I do. I sign that picture. I sign this. Makes me feel good. Then I go about my way, and I realize, you know, he’s gone. Only benefit I got is listening to… I got a couple of his unreleased music, and I listen to it, and it feels like he’s talking to me from the dead. I can hear his voice, and he’s saying something, and I think, I have that, you know? I don’t think many parents who’ve lost a kid can say they can hear their kid again. And I do. See what I’m saying? On a consistent basis. And here’s the kicker: If he wasn’t my son, I’d still fuckin’ like him. He’s the best fuckin’ rapper out there, ’cause nobody can rap! And the beats! You understand? The way he lays it down! I got that. That’s all I got. On my phone and at home, I listen.

TLC Is Subject of Vh1 Documentary

Vh1 is launching a series of documentary-style movies and TLC will be the first subject. The film will be penned by screenwriter Kate Lanier who is also responsible for flicks like Set It Off, What’s Love Got To Do With It and Beauty Shop.

TLC surviving members T-Boz and Chilli have both signed on to consult and produce the film and hope to revive the legacy of their deceased friend and group mate, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.

“The reality of this brings me to tears because I am seeing one of my dreams come to life,” Chilli said in the press release. “I always felt our story had to be told. What makes it even more amazing is having Kate Lanier on board. I remember watching ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ with Lisa, and I knew then whoever wrote that story had to write ours. I will forever be thankful to Jeff Olde for believing in our story and going the extra mile to make it happen.”

“I’m just overjoyed,” T-Boz added. “I appreciate Jeff Olde and everyone on staff at VH1 that took interest in us, thank you. Kate Lanier is amazing. I’m honored to work with her I love her art. Well here we go on another TLC ride and I can’t wait. Like Biggie said ‘Now if ya don’t know, now ya knowwwww.”

TLC released their debut, The TLC Tip, in 1991 and sold over 6 million copies, but it was the release of their second album, CrazySexyCool, in 1994 that elevated them to superstar status, with over 22 million albums moved worldwide. But soon after things began to look dim for the trio: T-Boz suffered from sickle-cell disease, Left Eye burned down her then-boyfriend’s house, and the group filed for bankruptcy.

And that’s not where the group’s mishaps ended. Left Eye began to dispute with the other two ladies after feeling left out of their third album, FanMail. Thankfully, they were able to patch things up in time for their fourth album, 3D. It was just then when Left Eye suffered a fatal car accident while on a spiritual trip in Honduras.

The surviving members performed a tribute concert in 2003 and will now, once again, be able to honor their fallen soldier.

Soulja Boy Served With Eviction Notice

The rapper has been served with eviction papers for not paying his $4,725 November rent for his ATL home and has until December 5 to pay up or risk getting thrown out…

Soulja Boy might have to crank right out of his Atlanta pad.

The rapper, born DeAndre Way, has been served with eviction papers for not paying his $4,725 November rent for his ATL home. Soulja has until December 5 to pay up or risk getting thrown out.

SB has had a rough year so far, including allegedly lying about owning a private jet, upsetting the military with one of his songs and getting arrested for reportedly carrying weed and a gun in a briefcase.

In related news, Soulja Boy’s fourth studio album, Promise, is slated to drop next year, following his 2010 release, The DeAndre Way.

“Right now I’m working on my new album; it’s called Promise — my fourth album to release from Interscope Records,” Soulja told The Boombox recently. “It’ll be in stores top of 2012. I want everybody to support. [The album is] just really showing the growth and maturity of Soulja Boy. It’s going to be dope. It’s going to be lot of great records on it, a lot of dope features, a lot of great production. I want all my fans to check it out.”

Comedian Patrice O'Neal dies, had suffered stroke

Veteran stand-up comic Patrice O'Neal, who gained a wider following through TV and radio and helped roast Charlie Sheen, died Tuesday from complications of a stroke he suffered last month. He was 41.

O'Neal's manager, Jonathan Brandstein, said he died in a New York-area hospital.

"Many of us have lost a close and loved friend; all of us have lost a true comic genius," Brandstein said in a statement.

O'Neal appeared on Conan O'Brien's and David Letterman's TV shows and was a frequent guest on the "Opie & Anthony" radio show on Sirius XM. His performance was a highlight of the Comedy Central roast of Sheen, who had been fired from the hit CBS comedy "Two and a Half Men," in September.

Sheen said in a tweet Tuesday, "The entertainment world as well as the world at large lost a brilliant man."

He added, "Patrice had that rare 'light' around him and inside of him. I only knew him for the few days leading up the Roast. Yet I will forever be inspired by his nobility, his grace and his epic talent. My tears today are for the tremendous loss to his true friends and loving family."

Other entertainers also mourned O'Neal on Twitter.

"RIP Patrice O'Neal. You made us laugh til we cried," comedian Sarah Silverman said.

Actor Jay Mohr said, "Just heard. Goodnight brother. Damn. Just ridiculous. Terrible. Beyond sad."

O'Neal had half-hour specials on Showtime and HBO and was the host of "Web Junk 20" on VH1. He appeared in numerous television shows including "Arrested Development," ''Chappelle's Show" and "The Office."

O'Neal suffered a stroke on Oct. 19 after battling diabetes. He is survived by his wife, Vondecarlo, his stepdaughter, Aymilyon, his sister, Zinder, and his mother, Georgia.

Brandstein, his manager, said the family wished to thank "all of the fans and friends who have expressed an outpouring of love and support for Patrice these past weeks."

May his soul rest in perfect peace.

Dr. Murray's Mom Begs Judge for Mercy

Dr. Conrad Murray's mother says she's "suffering" from overwhelming sadness because her only son is incarcerated -- and has begged the judge to go easy on the Doc when it comes to his sentence.

Mrs. Milta Rush sent a letter to Judge Pastor -- explaining why Murray deserves mercy ... because he's a good person who has "never drank alcohol, took drugs or smoked cigarettes in his life."

Milta explains, "He has never been in trouble with the law before and I am barely standing, scared and worried sick about him being incarcerated."

"He is saddened and remorseful about the death of his friend Michael Jackson and I do believe he is certainly learning the toughest lesson of his life."

Milta continues, "I sympathize with Mrs. Jackson as a mother; I feel her pain for having lost her son. I sense she was very close to her son. I really wanted to approach her personally and tell her I am sorry for the loss of her son but I was unsure if she would be receptive, and I did not want to take the chance of violating the courts rules. I am sorry for her loss."

"Judge Pastor, Conrad, is my son and as a mother I must say I know him inside out. He is sorry for what happened to Michael and had no intent towards him."

"I humbly beg for your heart felt consideration of everything I have said about Conrad, and ask for your compassion and leniency in giving him probation or community service."

Dr. Murray's sentencing hearing is scheduled for later today.

Photoshop Hell: The Worst, Most Hilariously Bad Album Covers Of All Time

We’ve heard the saying “don’t judge a book by its cover”. But what about albums?

So much investment is put into album packaging and determining how an artist is marketed. That starts with the album cover. Sometimes they’re masterpieces that rile up their fans. Other times, they’re pause worthy moments of Photoshop awkwardness that we can’t help but laugh at. So with that said, here are the most horrible album covers of all time.

pooh man funky as i wanna be

Pooh Man – Funky As I Wanna Be - What in the name of Herpes is going on here? Is she dead or something? Pooh Man is a freak. Clearly.

tony tee time to get physical

Tony Tee – Time To Get Physical - Why does he need two burly guys to lift a bar with no weights on it. And what is that chick doing? There’s so much awkward going on here.

lil wayne carter 3

Lil Wayne – Tha Carter III - What’s going on with Weezy here? This was in the height of his crazy drugginess and the album cover is a perfect example. Tatted up babies? And a million people bought this damn thing in its first week.

big bear doin thangs

Big Bear – Doin Thangs - So we’re throwing bears on album covers like they’re super hood or something? The Ghetto Berenstein Bears look means this should go straight to the trash bin.

millie jackson

Millie Jackson – Back To The Isht - Want to say that rappers are responsible for all the horrible album covers? Look at this old school cover from Millie Jackson. On the toilet? That’s a little too much.

spank

Spank Rock and Benny Blanco – Bangers & Cash - So we’re just going to throw two chunky chicks in a vat of honey and pretend like they’re dimes? They couldn't find other women? Or better names thank Spank Rock? Fail galore!

top dog slammin hoes

Top Dog – Slam Dunk’n Hoes - He’s just literally slam dunking a hoe. Who would pose for this? Did she think that getting dunked LeBron style into a goal would be her big break? She’s probably at K-Mart wondering where it all went wrong.

ta smallz

TA Smallz – Who Killed My Mama - The title alone is enough to make us wonder what could possibly be in store for us. Why on earth would they feel the need to have digital roses? Real roses cost like ten bucks. So…fake roses? Why?!

christmas n memphis

Various Artists – Christmas N’ Memphis - So, this is how Christmas is in Memphis? Crackhead-looking Santas getting held up at gun point? Can we never have Christmas in Memphis? Ever.

toys trees and

DJ Scream Kickstand – Toys, Trees And Snow - Actually, we have no clue what the title or musician is. There are just so many words! Can we just make rappers stay away from Christmas albums for ever and ever?

wet blakc

Wet Black - Errrr. No comment.

uncl murda

Uncle Murda – Murda’s Muzik II - Why would anyone want to shoot a care bear? Or photoshop dead Care Bears on album covers? Maybe this is why nobody listens to Uncle Murda? It’s karma.

okra eaters

Skillet & Leroy – The Okra Eaters - We think that “okra” might be code for something else. But why would you want to reference a hoo-ha as okra of all things?! That just doesn’t make any man want to come anywhere near it. Ewwwww.

who's hard

Big Shug – Who’s Hard - The cover itself is pretty normal. But that title? Is this an album title or a solicitation? You can’t be gangsta with a title like that? Sorry Mr. Shug.

killa klan

Killa Klan – Kill Or Be Killed - Why are there KKK members in the background? Are they supposed to be Black guys in Klan hoodies? Nothing good can come from any of this. Just stop it.

no limit

Every No Limit Album Ever – We could donate a whole section to just the crappy No Limit Albums. They were all full of glitter, bright colors and were more gaudy than your aunt’s church hat. What was Master P thinking?

wayne

Every Cash Money Album - And following in No Limit’s footsteps was Cash Money. Their albums looked just as gaudy and embarrassing. Looks like Weezy hasn’t changed too much since then.
